Hypertensive Disorders in Pregnancy

November 13, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality with an estimated 50,000-60,000 related deaths per year worldwide. In the United States, the incidence of preeclampsia has increased by 25% during the last two decades. For every pre-eclampsia related death that occurs in the U.S, there are likely about 50-100 other women who experience “near-miss” maternal morbidity that stops just short of death and results in other serious health risks and health care costs.

The session will provide an overview of hypertensive disorders, the risk factors, prevention strategies, and clinical management. The presentation will include a segment on Kaiser Permanente’s Comprehensive Perinatal Program (CPP), which improves birth outcomes and lowers admissions and lengths of stay in the NICU. The Perinatal Service Center, a component of the CPP, which is focused on medical risk factors such as Hypertensive disorders, will be discussed and used to provide stories and case examples from the front lines. Participants will also have an opportunity to tour the Total Health Center and enjoy light refreshments between 5:30 and 6 pm.
