In the final installment of #MaternalMondays, Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes, director of the DC Department of Employment Services, spoke with three other mothers about the special challenges of the first 90 days of motherhood.

All four mothers emphasized the importance of preparation and surrounding oneself with a strong support system. Finding childcare, breastfeeding struggles, sleep deprivation, navigating new emotions, and difficulty finding time for self-care and exercise are universal stresses for new mothers. While each faces her own obstacles, every mother should define her own success and remember it’s OK to be vulnerable and ask for help.
